Karim Tex Limited, a leading spinning mill of Karim Group, has been awarded LEED Silver certification under the LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4 rating system by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Located in Kalampur, Dhamrai, Dhaka, the factory earned 53 points for its performance in green building management, resource efficiency, and sustainable operations.

A State-of-the-Art Green Spinning Facility

Karim Tex Limited operates a state-of-the-art green spinning facility with a production capacity of 95 tons of yarn per day, contributing to Karim Group's broader textile manufacturing portfolio. The facility's green features include energy-efficient machinery, rooftop solar capacity, rainwater harvesting systems, and a zero-liquid-discharge wastewater treatment plant that recycles process water for reuse in dyeing and washing operations.

Multi-Certification Portfolio

The company holds several internationally recognised certifications, including OEKO-TEX, GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), OCS (Organic Content Standard), BCI (Better Cotton Initiative), CmiA (Cotton made in Africa), GRS (Global Recycled Standard), and RCS (Recycled Claim Standard). This multi-certification portfolio demonstrates Karim Tex's commitment to meeting the diverse sustainability requirements of international buyers across Europe, North America, and Asia.

Bangladesh's Green Factory Leadership

The latest LEED recognition further strengthens Bangladesh's position as a global leader in green manufacturing. The country now has 290 LEED-certified RMG and textile factories — the highest in any single country worldwide — of which 125 are Platinum-rated and 145 are Gold-rated. Notably, 53 of the world's top 100 highest-scoring LEED-certified garment factories are located in Bangladesh, a remarkable concentration of sustainable manufacturing infrastructure.

Spinning Sector Going Green

While most LEED-certified factories in Bangladesh are in the apparel manufacturing segment, the spinning sector — the critical backward linkage that supplies yarn to weavers and knitters — is increasingly investing in green certification. Karim Tex's LEED Silver adds to a growing list of green-certified spinning mills, including factories owned by Square Group, Thermax Group, and Delta Spinning Mills. This trend signals that Bangladesh's green factory movement has moved beyond export-facing garment factories into the deeper supply chain.
