BGMEA and Overseas Chinese Association Discuss Investment and Sustainable Growth in Bangladesh RMG Sector
High-level meeting on July 11, 2026 explored joint investment, technology transfer, circular fashion, and AI integration
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh (OCAIB) held a significant meeting on July 11, 2026 at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, to explore new opportunities for joint investment, technological modernization, and sustainable industrial development in Bangladesh's readymade garment (RMG) sector.
Agenda of the Meeting
The meeting featured productive discussions on a wide range of strategic areas, including:
- Strengthening joint investments between Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and Chinese investors
- Enhancing backward linkage industries to deepen the domestic supply chain
- Fostering a business-friendly policy environment to attract long-term foreign capital
- Promoting circular fashion and sustainable manufacturing practices
- Expanding the use of renewable energy in apparel factories
- Advancing carbon trading as a monetization mechanism for emission reductions
- Integrating artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies to improve global competitiveness
BGMEA Leadership
BGMEA leaders reaffirmed their commitment to facilitating effective partnerships between local entrepreneurs and Chinese investors to unlock new avenues for growth and innovation. The meeting was chaired by BGMEA Senior Vice President Mr. Inamul Haq Khan.

Other senior members of the delegation included Vice Presidents Mr. Andy Chan, Mr. Cliff Ren, Ms. Lisa Lu, and Mr. Joel Wong; Deputy Secretary General Ms. Jessie Yu; and Executive Director Mr. Steven Zhang, along with other senior representatives of the association.
Mutual Commitment to Collaboration
The OCAIB delegation highly appreciated the capabilities and achievements of Bangladesh's RMG industry and expressed strong interest in expanding investment, technology transfer, and technical cooperation. Both sides emphasized that such collaboration would play an important role in making Bangladesh's apparel industry more innovative, sustainable, and globally competitive — particularly as the country prepares for its scheduled LDC graduation and the consequent evolution of its trade relationships with key partners including China.
