Bangladesh Exports Hit Record $48.2 Billion in FY 2025-26
RMG continues to drive growth as Bangladesh diversifies into new markets
Bangladesh achieved a historic milestone in export earnings during the fiscal year 2025-26, with total exports reaching $48.2 billion, representing an 8.7% year-on-year growth, according to data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
Key Growth Drivers
The Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector continued to be the backbone of Bangladesh's export economy, contributing $40.6 billion, which accounts for over 84% of total exports. The sector saw a 7.2% growth driven by strong demand from the United States and European Union markets.
"This achievement reflects the resilience and competitiveness of Bangladeshi exporters in the global market despite challenging economic conditions worldwide," said the Commerce Minister.
Emerging Sectors
Beyond RMG, several sectors showed remarkable growth:
- Pharmaceuticals: $180 million (+18.2%)
- Leather & Leather Goods: $950 million (+12.4%)
- Jute & Jute Goods: $1.2 billion (+5.1%)
- ICT Services: $2.1 billion (+15.3%)
Market Diversification
While the United States remains the largest single destination with $9.1 billion in exports, Bangladesh has been actively diversifying its export markets. The recent Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Japan, signed in February 2026, has opened new opportunities in the Japanese market.
Future Outlook
The government has set an ambitious target of $80 billion in exports by 2029. To achieve this, the Ministry of Commerce is focusing on:
- Sector diversification beyond RMG
- Market expansion in Asia-Pacific
- Skills development and technology adoption
- Trade facilitation and logistics infrastructure
