Executive Summary
Agribusiness exports (HS 01-24 + selected processed food chapters) reached USD 1.05B in FY2023-24, comprising frozen shrimp/prawn (USD 412M), frozen fish (USD 233M), agricultural produce (USD 245M), and processed food (USD 165M). Bangladesh is the world's 4th largest inland fish producer and 5th largest aquaculture producer. Major export products: frozen shrimp (Black Tiger, Vannamei since 2022), freshwater prawn (Golda), hilsha fish (export to India restricted since 2012, occasional lifting), vegetables (okra, bitter gourd, beans) to Middle East and UK, fruits (mango, jackfruit) to EU and Middle East, rice (Basmati-equivalent to Africa), and processed food (jam, jelly, sauces, snacks). The sector is regulated by the Department of Fisheries (DoF) for aquaculture, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) for crops, and the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) for all food safety.
