Bangladesh Export Statistics: Annual Report 2021-22
Executive Summary
FY2021-22 was a record year for Bangladesh exports, with total goods export reaching USD 52.15 billion — a 34.86% surge over FY2020-21's USD 38.66 billion. The rebound was driven by pent-up post-COVID demand in Western markets, the Bangladesh government's effective pandemic response keeping factories operational, and a shift in global apparel sourcing away from China due to lockdowns. RMG exports crossed USD 40 billion for the first time (USD 42.61B combined knit+woven, 81.7% of total). Knitwear hit USD 22.51B and woven USD 20.10B. Non-RMG sectors also posted record numbers: jute and jute goods USD 1.16B (+26%), leather and leather products USD 1.26B (+33%), home textiles USD 1.10B (+44%). The USA remained the largest single market at USD 9.51B, followed by Germany USD 8.13B, UK USD 5.32B, France USD 3.74B, and Spain USD 3.55B. The export diversification strategy began showing results with exports to non-traditional markets crossing 21% of total.
